We have neighbors!

Such a lame post topic, but I’m so excited I couldn’t refrain.  We live in a great town and have some wonderful friends here, but our exact house location, while not remote, is a bit lonely.  The house next door on one side is vacant and for sale – and the precarious shape it’s in [...]

Bathroom – 2 months later

I can’t believe it’s been 2 months since I last posted.  Sadder yet, my last post was about the bathroom remodel and here we are 2 months later and it’s still.not.done.  It’s been a very trying time around here…imagine weeks on end of driving to my mom’s house to bathe the entire family.  Imagine shoddy [...]

Bathroom

Having a one bathroom home is awesome.  It breaks down barriers, really.  It encourages intimacy.  Who would favor solitude in the bathroom when teethbrushing and showering can be family affairs?  Hermits, I guess.
Even better, is having a one bathroom house that was last updated in 1960.  Besides the stylin’ (pink) decor, there are charming physical [...]

New Boiler

Well, timing being everything, we finally buckled down and decided to replace our 57 year-old oil boiler for a new energy-efficient model just as home heating oil prices have hit an all-time low.  Figures.  I’m still happy though because:

The old boiler was very old.  It weighed over 1,000 pounds and had to be cut into [...]

It’s been too long

Very remiss with posting.  Only excuse I can come up with is extreme work-related business tossed with family-fun and just a hint of anxiety/depression/insomnia.  Anyway, I’d like to make amends, dear blog, and catch up a bit.
Pregnancy-inspired madness has also been taking up some time, in terms of nesting, etc.  In an effort to shed unnecessary [...]

Projects

This is how the money disappears when you have an old house:

Garage door opener
Driveway sealant
Painting the bedrooms/repairing the plaster ceilings
Remodeling 1950s bathroom
Remodeling tiny toilet-in-a-closet bathroom
New furnace
New oil tank
New range

The list never really ends, as the money does sadly.  The question is, which projects and when?  A baby is on the way and I feel like [...]

Ruminating about Garages

Riveting topic, right?  So I’ve mentioned before how our house is old.  And how the list of projects to get it fixed up is never-ending – and keeps growing…right?  Well, here’s today’s madness, admittedly 95% caused by my own insanity.  We have very small cars – works out great with one child and a single [...]

Photo documentation – it really was clean

Please forgive the over-the-top photo extravaganza I’m about to release.  I’m proud that we were able to get our act together and the house in such good shape for the tour today and I want to share the proof.
Over $4,500 was raised for the library today, despite the torrential rain.  It was so cool to [...]

House Tour Today

The house tour is starting in 20 minutes.  The house has never, ever been this clean.  I’ve taken plenty of pictures to document this miracle and will be back later to post.  Right now, we’re clearing out of here so the tour can begin.

Home Tour and Bedtime Woes

Let me just say that in November when we were asked to participate in the home tour, I was flattered and proud and excited by the prospect.  Now that it’s less than a week away?  I’m simply freaked.  First of all, I had NO IDEA how much crap we managed to cram into this place [...]
